Resettlement of refugees into locations around New Zealand impacted by current COVID-19 outbreak

Immigration NZ Communications to Quota Refugee Stakeholders:

“The Government has agreed to a refugee quota of 750-1,000 for the 2021/22 financial year. Due to the impacts of the current COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdowns, Immigration NZ (INZ) has paused the settlement of refugees at Te Āhuru Mōwai o Aotearoa into settlement locations around New Zealand. This has meant that the planned intake for October has been deferred to ensure that we can accommodate the new arrivals, following their stay in managed isolation and quarantine.

We appreciate that this is unsettling for our service providers that were expecting to be providing settlement support, and we would like to thank you for your patience as we work through the logistics necessary to ensure we can resume the planned October intake as soon as possible. As the current COVID-19 outbreak evolves, we will continue to update you on the plans for future intakes.

If you have any further queries, please contact rqp@mbie.govt.nz."
