Introducing ActivAsian
Increasing sporting opportunities for all ethnic groups across the North Harbour Region is an important goal for Harbour Sport. To facilitate this goal Harbour Sport has developed the “ActivAsian” programme in 2009. The objectives of the programme are:
- Improving sporting opportunities for Asian people, with a particular focus on school aged children.
- Improving access to information about sport and recreational opportunities for the Asian community.
- Encouraging more Asian people to participate in sport
The initial focus of the programme was to increase sport participation of the Chinese and Korean communities on the North Shore. The programme has been very successfully by making sporting information more accessible, improving the capability of Regional Sport Organisations and clubs in engaging the Asian communities, and ultimately increasing sporting opportunities in the Asian community.
