2018 AUT/Government Interpreting Scholarships

Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in partnership with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) will provide six scholarships to assist speakers of identified rare languages to enrol in and complete the Graduate Certificate in Arts in Interpreting at AUT and to enhance their career opportunities whilst also fulfilling interpretation needs for the government sector. 

This programme provides participants with the opportunity to gain an important entry level qualification in interpreting and is currently geared towards those speakers of rare languages such as former refugees

Eligible rare languages for the 2018 intake include Amharic, Bengali, Bulgarian, Dari, Farsi, Gujarati, Kiribati, Kurdish (Sorani), Lao, Malayalam, Pushto, Rohingya, Sri Lankan Tamil (Tamil), Swahili, Turkish, Urdu.

Applications close on Friday 16 February 2018. All applications must be through the AUT portal and will not be accepted in any other format.

As this programme is currently only available face-to-face, recipients are required to commit to their programme of study at AUT in Auckland during the tenure of the scholarship and complete the papers within one year of award.
