Refugee Quota Arrivals and Settlement for the last five years

Since 2014, 4,158 quota refugees have arrived in New Zealand. From 2016, the New Zealand Government accepted Syrian refugees increasing the quota from 750 to 1000 refugees annually. The top 10 nationalities for settlement in New Zealand since 2014 are: Syria (944); Myanmar (740); Afghanistan (537); Colombia (437); Bhutan (205); Palestine (189); Iraq (94); Sri Lanka (93); Pakistan (87); Iran (63).

Additionally, refugees have arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Nepal, Somalia, South Sudan and Vietnam.

In the last five years, refugees to New Zealand have been settled in: Auckland (629); Hamilton (571); Hawkes Bay (3); Palmerston North (551); Wellington (967); Nelson (418); Dunedin (468) and Invercargill (44).

The quota will increase to 1500 refugees annually in 2020.
