New Zealanders’ Perceptions of Refugees – Survey Report [2020]

Brand new publication! Refugees As Survivors New Zealand (RASNZ) has just launched their first New Zealanders’ Perceptions of Refugees Survey Report. The survey was conducted in collaboration with Colmar Brunton in April 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the level 4 lockdown.

The research surveyed more than 1,000 New Zealanders from Northland to Southland. It offers a fascinating insight into kiwi’s knowledge of and attitudes towards people from refugee backgrounds. With the proud history of New Zealand refugee resettlement, the survey is a valuable and timely resource, especially with the official announcement of the increase in the nation’s refugee quota to 1,500 from 1st July 2020.

The report presents information about:

  • the surveyed respondents
  • respondents’ knowledge and understanding of the refugee journey
  • respondents’ attitudes towards refugees
  • RASNZ
